Bruno Munari, a major figure of Italian design, conceived the "Cubo" ashtray in the mid-1950s. Danese Milano, the publisher founded in Milan that same year by Bruno Danese and Jacqueline Vodoz, made it one of its first utilitarian objects. It is now held in the collection of MoMA, New York.

The principle is wonderfully economical: a white melamine cube, in which sits a simply folded piece of bronze-grey anodised aluminium. Two offset flaps leave a slot through which ash and stubs disappear from view. The raised mark "Danese Milano, © B. Munari 1957, Made in Italy" is moulded on one side.

Very good condition: crisp melamine, aluminium with no knocks. Found in Florence.

At 8 cm on each side, it sits on a desk, console or coffee table, as an ashtray or as a small holder for paper clips and loose change. A graphic object that has remained without equal.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0584/5077/2174/files/photo_01_ca3ae271-4957-4bf2-8085-34b42bba2627.jpg?v=1793428914
https://www.treaptyque.com/en/products/cendrier-de-table-cubo-par-bruno-munari-pour-danese-milano-80s
