In 1960s Italy, many workshops produced small brass desk objects, often combined with glass. Made in small series, these boxes rely on simple volumes and clean assemblies.

Italian rectangular box, circa 1960. The body is in brass and the interior is lined with red velvet. The removable lid is a sheet of smoked glass held by two brass profiles that also serve as handles. Seen through the glass, the velvet gives the lid a deep burgundy tint. Designer and manufacturer unidentified.

Good overall condition. The brass has a natural, even patina, with a few spots of oxidation. The glass sheet has no scratches. The velvet lining is worn, with a small missing area on one side, visible through the glass when the box is closed.
