20th-century design seating: the story of a comfort revolution

In the 20th century, seating became a field of experimentation for designers. The 1950s and 1960s saw new forms emerge thanks to foam, tubular steel and stretch fabric: at the Dutch manufacturer Artifort, Pierre Paulin imagined sculptural armchairs such as the F675 "Butterfly", the F444 and the "Pumpkin" sofa, now icons of French design.

Our selection brings together pieces from across Europe and the United States: the PK22 by Poul Kjærholm, the Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames, the "Diamond" chairs by Harry Bertoia for Knoll, Dutch chairs by Spectrum or Gispen, and Italian leather models from the 1970s.

Every seat is authentic and described in detail: materials, dimensions, condition. Browse our armchairs and lounge chairs, our chairs and our sofas and benches, or discover all our design furniture. These pieces are also available to rent for your shoots and events.
