20th-century design chairs, single or in sets
The chair is probably the object most studied by 20th-century designers. Tubular steel, bentwood, stretched leather: each decade brought its own innovations. In the Netherlands, Martin Visser for Spectrum and Gispen designed models of great purity; in France, Jean Prouvé created the "Standard" chair, reissued by Vitra; Eileen Gray designed the "Roquebrune" chair.
