Italy, 1980s. Natural stone found its way onto Italian smoking tables at the time, combined with glass or plexiglass for an effect both raw and architectural. This round ashtray is a sober, mineral version.
The bowl, carved from green stone with irregular veining, has a wide flat rim cut with four cigarette notches. It rests on a larger clear disc, fixed with small screws, which lifts it off the table and makes it look as if it is levitating. The underside is lined with black felt.
Good used condition: the stone has a light matt patina, with a few fine scratches and marks of use on the rim and in the bowl, with no chips or cracks. The clear disc is intact.
At 19 cm in diameter and 3 cm high, this ashtray sits on a coffee table or a desk, as an ashtray or a catchall tray. A mineral, discreet object of fine simplicity.
