Italy, 1950s. Post-war Italian silversmithing loved sober desk objects, where precious wood dialogues with silver. This cigarette box is an example of great restraint.

The body, in burl veneer with wavy honey-toned figure, is topped by a silver lid engine-turned with fine parallel lines and edged with a smooth band. The metal bears the "800" hallmark and a second maker's mark, a guarantee of authenticity. A small almond-shaped silver handle serves as a grip, and a brass hinge closes the box. Inside, light wood and a removable tray divide the space.

Good used condition: the wood has a warm patina with small marks of age, the silver has taken on light natural oxidation, and the hinge and interior are sound. A piece that has lived well and presents very well.

At 17 cm long, 10 cm wide and 5 cm high, it sits on a desk or a pedestal table and holds cigarettes, cards or small objects. A sober, precious case, typical of 1950s Italian refinement.
