Italy, 1980s. Murano glassmakers continue their tradition of layered blown glass here: this flared vase, in turquoise blue flecked with white, is a fine illustration, with its velvety, almost milky finish.
Its tulip silhouette, narrowed at the base and widening into a thick, rounded neck, stands on a solid clear glass foot that reveals the blue core. The inside, marbled with pale patches, recalls the surface of running water, and the soft-to-the-touch glass diffuses the light rather than reflecting it.
Good overall condition, on visual inspection: a few fine superficial scratches on the neck, tiny specks in the glass, no visible chips or cracks.
At 23 cm high and 19 cm wide, it stands alone on a console, a sideboard or a coffee table, or holds a generous bouquet of flowers.
