Italy, 1970s. Black lacquered wood, paired with polished brass and veneer marquetry, makes up a vocabulary much prized in Italian desk design of the decade. This square catch-all tray is a very restrained version of it.
The block, in matte black lacquered wood, is hollowed with a circular well in mirror-polished gilt brass, whose curve draws the eye. On each side, a panel of light figured wood, framed by two brass lines, breaks up the black mass like an inlay. The underside is lined with beige felt, which protects surfaces.
Perfect condition: the piece is new, never used, and was unpacked only for the photos. The brass is brilliant, the lacquer unmarked, the original felt brand new.
At 14 cm square by 2.5 cm high, this catch-all tray sits on a desk, console or entryway table, for keys or loose change. A very chic, clean-lined, graphic object.
