In the early 1970s, Dutch design explored the possibilities of bent wood to create continuous forms, with no visible joint between seat, back and legs. Gijs Bakker joined this research with the "Strip" chair, conceived as a ribbon of wood folded in a single line.

"Strip" model, designed by Gijs Bakker and produced by Castelijn, the Netherlands, circa 1974. Ash veneer plywood, bent and laminated to form back, seat and front legs in one piece. Stackable, designed for both contract and domestic use.

Very good overall condition. Even patina on the wood, consistent with the age of the piece. A very slight loss of material on one of the four chairs, with no effect on strength or appearance. Provenance: Amsterdam.

Dimensions per chair: height 78 cm, width 53 cm, length 44 cm, seat height 43 cm.

A set of four stackable chairs, to use around a dining table or in a row in a reception space. The radical design makes it a strong piece of 1970s Dutch design.
