In the 1960s, Dutch design moved towards clean lines and visible construction, where structure is an integral part of the aesthetic. Kho Liang Ie, a major figure of Dutch design of the period, developed rigorous seating for Artifort, between industrial rigour and comfort.

Bench by Kho Liang Ie for Artifort, circa 1960. Steel frame forming a sled base, seat and back made of blackened oak slats fixed with visible rivets. A graphic, sober line, typical of the designer's work on public and semi-public seating.

Good overall condition. The wood is in good condition. The steel shows pitting in the corners, consistent with the age of the piece and part of its character. An early-1960s piece, rarely found on the market.

Dimensions: length 190 cm, height 69 cm, depth 82 cm.

A bench for an entrance, a corridor or a reception area, for its structural presence as much as for its use.

Colour: black and grey
