Italy, 1960s. Solid turned and polished brass was hugely popular for Italian tableware at the time, between architectural sobriety and the warmth of golden metal. This pair of cylindrical vases is a crisp, elegant expression.

Each brass vase forms a slender cylinder punctuated by fine circular incisions, grouped in ones, twos or threes, like the nodes of a bamboo stem. The neck and foot are highlighted by a small bead that frames the composition. The highly reflective polished brass plays with the light along its whole height.

A lovely patina of age: the brass has taken on warm, deep nuances, with fine surface micro-scratches consistent with its age, and no dents or warping. The pair is complete and perfectly matched.

At 25 cm high and 9 cm wide each, these vases sit on a console, a mantelpiece or a table, together for a symmetrical composition or apart. A sober, precious pair with a clean design.
