Italy, 1980s. Brandani's "Galassia" series made cast aluminium a tableware material in its own right, enlivened with bright enamels and lines in motion. This large catchall tray, in a vivid orange, is one of its boldest variations.
The shell, mirror-polished aluminium outside, takes the form of a long curved pod with ends cut on the bias, which seems to float above the surface. The inside is coated in saffron-orange enamel, worked with fine chevron ribs evoking the vein of a leaf and catching the light in pearly reflections. The contrast between the shiny metal and the warm colour is the strength of the piece.
Good overall condition: the enamel is intact and keeps its shine; the polished aluminium has very light marks of use, with no dents or warping.
