Italy, 1960s. The scallop shell runs through the history of decorative arts, from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism, and still inspired Italian metalwork in the second half of the century. This large brass catchall tray takes up the motif generously.

The cast brass bowl follows the form of a shell with wide wavy ribs, edged with a scalloped outline. At the hinge, a relief decoration of scrolls and a palmette adds a baroque character. It rests on three small turned brass feet that lift it slightly off the table.

Good used condition: the brass has an old, irregular patina, with a few spots of oxidation in the bowl and a darker underside, with no dents or warping. A patina that gives the piece character.

At 20.5 cm long, 18.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm high, this catchall tray suits a console, a hall table or a coffee table, for keys, jewellery or small objects. A warm decorative object, between tradition and Italian elegance.
