Murano, 1980s. Seguso, one of the island's great glassworks, combined its "sommerso" know-how with the designs of Flavio Poli, a major figure of post-war Italian glass. This "Block" catchall tray is a luminous illustration.
The piece is a block of solid glass, rectangular and perfectly cut, hollowed with a bowl. Inside the colourless crystal, a thick amber layer, from honey yellow to orange, traps the light. The block is wheel-engraved with star motifs on the base, sides and corners, which catch and diffract the golden reflections.
Very good condition: the glass is clear and the cutting intact. One very small nick remains on the glass, minor given the finesse of the piece.
At 13 cm long, 7.5 cm wide and 5.5 cm high, this catchall tray sits on a desk, a console or a coffee table. A block of amber light, between glass sculpture and everyday object.
