Turin, 1970s. The Simmi workshop, on via Santa Teresa, produced polished aluminium table and desk objects with sculptural forms and coloured interiors. This crescent-shaped catchall tray is an elegant illustration.

The mirror-polished aluminium shell draws a tapered curve rising into two points on either side of a small rectangular foot. The inside has a finely ribbed brown enamel whose concentric lines evoke wood grain and catch the light. The contrast between the shine of the metal and the warmth of the enamel is the strength of the piece. The underside is lined with black velvet and bears the original label "Simmi, Via S. Teresa 18, Torino".

Very good condition: the aluminium is shiny with a few very light marks of use, the inner enamel is intact and the velvet on the foot is preserved.

At 20 cm long, 8.5 cm wide and 10.5 cm high, this catchall tray sits on a console, a desk or a coffee table, as a decorative object or a receptacle. A graphic, luminous piece, typical of 1970s Italian design.
