Italy, 1970s. Bakelite, an emblematic material of post-war design, found a second youth combined with chrome in desk objects with taut lines. This rectangular catchall tray is a sober, graphic version.
The frame is made of four bars of speckled anthracite bakelite, joined by rounded chrome end caps that soften the corners. At the centre, a slightly hollowed brushed aluminium dish holds keys and small objects. The black underside rests on four rubber feet.
Very good condition: the bakelite is intact, with no cracks or chips, the chrome caps keep their shine, and the brushed aluminium shows only very light marks of use.
At 24 cm long, 11 cm wide and 3 cm high, this catchall tray suits a desk, a console or a hall table. A crisp, contemporary object, between industrial material and Italian elegance.
