Italian foundries in the 1930s and 1940s produced cast bronze office items and table accessories, often treated with a chemical patina to mimic antiquity. This circular ashtray is a direct example: a low and massive form, cast in solid bronze, with four cigarette rests whose upper edge retains a golden polish contrasting with the inner patina.
The outer surface presents a curved profile characteristic of mold casting, with no visible seams. The deep and heterogeneous verdigris patina covers the entire bowl, with the exception of the notches and the polished rim — a deliberate treatment that accentuates the contrast between raw bronze and worked metal. Designer and publisher unidentified.
Very good condition. Homogeneous and stable patina, with no apparent restoration. No chips or cracks.
Dimensions: height 3 cm, diameter 12 cm.
To be placed on a desk, coffee table, or console. Functions as an ashtray, catchall, or decorative object.
