In the 1960s, Italian production of office items and table accessories reached a remarkable level of execution, particularly in the assembly of contrasting materials. Solid brass and resin were then skilfully combined in small-batch pieces intended for carefully curated interiors.
This square ashtray combines a polished brass structure with a natural resin top featuring floral inclusions—pressed leaves and flowers visible through the transparency. The central hemispherical brass bowl rests within a thick frame with clean edges. A lateral push-button, characteristic of the rotating mechanism of ashtrays from this period, completes the ensemble. Designer and manufacturer unidentified. Italian production, circa 1960.
The overall condition is very good. Uniform patina on the brass, consistent with age and use. The inclusions in the resin are perfectly preserved, with no visible cracking or yellowing. Piece sourced in Florence from a private collection.
