In 1954, Max Ingrand became the artistic director of Fontana Arte. This period, which lasted a decade, saw him impose his signature style: thick, cut glass, worked like stone. This standing ashtray dates from that period.
Max Ingrand was one of the major figures of glass and decor in France in the 20th century. Artistic director of Fontana Arte, he was also vice-president of the Society of Decorative Artists, vice-president of the Union of Art Glassmakers and Crystal Makers of France, and president of the Alumni of the National School of Decorative Arts.
He created the stained-glass windows for over two hundred religious buildings across France, making him one of the greatest master glassmakers of his time. He was made Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1957.
Model from the 2461 series, produced by Fontana Arte in Italy in the 1960s. The wooden column is topped with a slab of cut glass featuring a floral motif, Ingrand's recognizable signature, glued directly onto the support. Four identical wooden handles, carved in relief, adorn the side faces.
Good state of preservation. A slight scratch on one corner, attenuated with wax in the workshop. Slight beginning of patina under the glass, not serious, which adds to the character of the piece. The glass is fixed, not removable.

A rare piece, almost impossible to find on the market today! Few examples from this series have survived in such good condition. To be placed in an entryway, near a desk, or as a sculptural plinth for a precious object.
