In the wake of European modernism, the cantilever chair emerged between the two world wars as a formal revolution. This set of four Italian cognac leather "Cantilever" chairs, attributed to Marcel Breuer , belongs to this tradition, with production dating from the 1970s.
Each chair rests on a chromed tubular steel frame forming a cantilevered base, an iconic feature of the Bauhaus design vocabulary. The seat, backrest, and armrests are upholstered in original cognac leather, stretched taut and held in place by exposed metal fasteners.
