Claire Bataille and Paul Ibens, Belgian designers, collaborated with the Dutch publisher Spectrum on furniture of formal rigor, continuing the tradition of the steel tube. The SE18 is a direct expression of this: a single continuous chrome-plated steel tube forms the legs, the seat frame, and the backrest upright. Two thick leather straps—seat and backrest—complete the structure, without padding or artifice.
The black leather has developed a clear patina of use, consistent across all four chairs. No cracks, no tears. The chrome structures are solid and visually homogeneous.
A set of four SE18s in this condition is rare on the secondary market. The chair itself is already rare individually.
