In the 1980s, Italian tableware design explored assemblies of contrasting materials, combining solid wood and industrial metal in compositions with strong graphic character. This ashtray is a direct example: a brown-olive stained wood block with rounded corners, into which a brushed metal structure with a square cross-section is embedded, forming a central bowl with four cigarette notches. The metal, precisely folded and assembled, crosses the wood at the corners in a deliberately visible layering effect.
The aesthetic is both raw and refined. The wood, with its visible grain, contrasts with the satin-finished metal. Designer and manufacturer unidentified — Italian production, circa 1980.
Overall condition very good. Wood treated before sale, consistent grain, no chips. Natural metal patina, some light signs of use consistent with age.
