Italy in the 1970s produced solid wood furniture of rarely equalled quality. This pair of walnut coffee tables, designed by Mario Marenco for Mobil Girgi, is a direct illustration of this. The top is made of walnut slats assembled in alternating light and dark shades, encircled by a thick band with rounded edges. The massive legs with softened rectangular sections adopt the same formal vocabulary — wood everywhere, with no concessions to metal or glass. The lacquered finish accentuates the natural grain of the walnut and gives the whole a solid and luminous presence.
Very good condition. A slight circular mark on one of the two tops, which contributes to the patina without detracting from the overall appearance. Sourced in Florence. Almost square format (90 × 93.5 cm, H 36.5 cm) — to be arranged opposite each other or offset depending on the living room configuration. A rare pair in this condition.
