Italy, 1980s. Paolo Piva, an architect and designer born in 1950 near Venice, worked with B&B Italia from the 1970s and created Alanda, one of his best-known pieces. The idea comes down to a single image: a glass top resting on inverted metal pyramids that seem to touch the floor only with their tips.
Here, four pyramids of silver-toned metal tube, identical in size, answer one another and draw a play of triangles beneath the glass. The edges cross in a star around a central metal disc. The thick, perfectly clear glass rests on new pads set in each corner. The silver-toned metal catches the light and casts its geometry onto the floor.
Very good condition: the glass is clean and the metal structure is in good shape, with new pads in all four corners. This piece comes from Milan.
Wide and very low, it measures 100 cm square and 34.5 cm high. An architect's table, which commands the centre of a living room without ever crowding it.
