In the 1980s, Murano glassmakers revitalized surface effects by combining blown glass with matte finishes obtained through sandblasting or acid treatment. The speckled, or "a macchie", glass combines this velvety texture with inclusions of colored powder, for a cloudy, stone-like appearance.
Italian blown Murano glass vase, circa 1980. Curved body with a narrow opening, speckled gray surface on an off-white background, treated with a matte velvety finish. Natural gradient from deep gray to light at the bottom. Dark interior, contrasting with the satin exterior. Glassware and manufacturer unidentified.
Good condition visible in the transmitted photographs: homogeneous surface, no visible chips on the neck or base.
