Italy, 1960s. Solid brass, cast then patinated by hand, gives Italian desk objects a raw, warm presence, far from industrial perfection. This octagonal catchall tray is a sculptural version of it.
The thick bowl is framed by a broad rim in the shape of an irregular octagon with gently waved edges, giving it the look of a hand-shaped piece. The surface bears the marks of the mould: crackled grain, small irregularities, shades of green, ochre and deep brown. The darker underside rests on four felt pads and carries an engraved monogram.
Beautiful patina of use: the brass has taken on matte reflections and lighter areas on the rim, consistent with its age, with no dents or deformation. A patina that makes all the charm of the piece.
