In the 1970s, several Italian houses explored glass as a material in its own right, beyond its traditional decorative use. Mario Cioni, a Tuscan glassmaker based in Empoli, developed thick-walled molded glass objects during this period, whose optical quality and formal precision are characteristic of the region's productions.
This circular catchall is made of solid colorless glass, molded in a single piece. The shape is simple: a thick, slightly raised peripheral ring defines a central bowl with a flat bottom. The profile, viewed from the side, presents two distinct levels separated by a sharp groove — a very clean molding work. The surface reflects light with total transparency, without tint or alteration.
The piece bears the engraved signature "Mario" on the rim, and the stamp "Cioni Murano Italy" on the reverse — complete and certain identification.
Excellent condition. No notable scratches, no chips. Four small original protective pads under the base, still in place.
Dimensions: height 3.5 cm, diameter 20.5 cm.
To be placed on a desk, console, or bedside table. Also functions as a vase coaster or low display stand.
